Filters and Targeting

Below the prompt text area, four dropdown filters allow teachers to precisely target the generated content. These filters communicate critical context to the AI, ensuring the output is immediately appropriate without requiring extensive editing.

4.1 Preset

The Preset dropdown allows users to apply saved configurations. Presets capture a combination of settings (grade, purpose, format preferences) so that teachers who create similar types of resources regularly can apply their preferred setup in one click.

4.2 Grade Level

The Grade Level filter spans the full educational spectrum, organized into groups:

Group

Options

Pre-K

Pre-K

Elementary School

Kindergarten, 1st–5th Grade

Middle School

6th–8th Grade

High School

9th–12th Grade

Post-Secondary

Higher Education, Adult Education

Other

Homeschool, Staff, For Any Grade

When a grade level is selected, TeachShare automatically adjusts the vocabulary, sentence complexity, question types, and content rigor to match developmental expectations for that level.

4.3 Instructional Purpose

The Instructional Purpose filter defines the pedagogical role of the resource within a lesson or unit. This ensures the AI generates content appropriate to the moment in instruction. Common purposes include:

  • Direct Instruction / Lecture — Content for the teacher to present
  • Guided Practice — Activities completed with teacher support
  • Independent Practice — Work students complete on their own
  • Assessment / Exit Ticket — Formative or summative evaluation tools
  • Enrichment — Extension activities for advanced learners
  • Intervention — Remediation for students who need additional support
  • Review / Warm-Up — Bell ringers and review activities

Note: Standards Alignment and Instructional Purpose are premium features, unavailable on the Free plan.

4.4 Instructional Time

The Time filter sets the expected duration of the activity. This helps the AI calibrate the volume and depth of content. For example, a 10-minute warm-up activity will be significantly shorter and more focused than a 45-minute independent practice assignment.

Use Case: A high school chemistry teacher needs a 20-minute bell ringer activity on balancing chemical equations. They type the prompt, select "10th Grade," set Instructional Purpose to "Warm-Up," and set Time to "20 minutes." The generated activity is precisely scoped — not too long, not too short — and immediately usable.
