Using Chat (Ida) to Differentiate Resources

Using Chat (Ida) to Differentiate Resources

Chat Quick Actions

TeachShare's Creator interface includes a powerful AI Instructional Design Assistant named Ida. Accessible via the Chat tab in the right-hand sidebar, Ida acts as a collaborative partner, allowing teachers to instantly differentiate, modify, or extend any resource through natural language prompts.

Accessing the Assistant

To open the chat interface, teachers simply click the Chat button located in the top-right toolbar of the Creator (next to the Teaching Guide button). This opens a persistent side panel where they can converse with Ida while simultaneously viewing the resource on the main canvas.

Quick Actions

for Differentiation

To help teachers get started quickly, the chat panel includes a Quick Actions menu just above the text input box. Clicking the > icon reveals several one-click prompts, including:

  • Differentiate: Initiates a workflow to adapt the resource for specific learner profiles.
  • Extend: Asks Ida to add more challenging content or extension activities for early finishers.
  • Change Image: Prompts the AI to suggest or swap visual assets.
  • Adjust Pages: Helps reorganize or modify the page layout.

The Differentiation Workflow

When a teacher clicks the Differentiate Quick Action, Ida immediately responds with a guiding prompt:

"How would you like to differentiate this? You can ask to adjust difficulty, DOK, add in common misconceptions, scaffolds, reading level, language, add in sentence frames, and more!"

Teachers can then type specific, natural language requests into the chat box. Examples of effective differentiation prompts include:

  • Language Support: "Add sentence frames and visual supports for ELL students who are at a beginner English level."
  • Reading Level: "Rewrite the reading passage on page 1 to be at a 3rd-grade reading level while keeping the core vocabulary."
  • Scaffolding: "Break down question 4 into three smaller, guided steps."
  • Depth of Knowledge (DOK): "Increase the DOK of the short-answer questions from recall to strategic thinking."

Voice Input

For added convenience, teachers do not have to type out long differentiation requests. The chat input box features a microphone icon. By clicking "Start voice input," teachers can simply dictate their instructions to Ida, making it faster to describe complex modifications while actively reviewing the resource on the screen.

Collaborative Editing

Ida does not just offer suggestions; she actively modifies the resource on the canvas based on the teacher's instructions. Teachers can review the changes Ida makes in real-time. If the result isn't quite right, the teacher can simply reply with further instructions (e.g., "Make the sentence frames simpler" or "Undo that last change and try again"), creating an iterative, collaborative design process that ensures the final differentiated resource perfectly meets the needs of their students.
